Amalia received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in 2018. She has recently expanded her clinical knowledge in the area of pelvic health; which resulted in her joining the Avila team in August 2021. Her interests include treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions, chronic pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction and post-partum care. She also has special training in lymphedema management and has been a Certified Lymphedema Therapist through the Norton School of Lymphatic Studies since 2019.
She began her career in physical therapy at Wilson Medical Center, where she gained 3 years of experience working with a wide variety of patients and medical diagnoses. Her areas of clinical practice include orthopedic injuries, post-operative surgery recovery, neurological conditions and geriatrics. Her focus of treatment was to restore function, improve strength and manage pain in patients with these conditions. She has been committed to serving all patients with evidence-based practice techniques to improve their outcomes and overall quality of life.
While she was a student at East Carolina University, she participated in the first Student-Run Physical Therapy Clinic, providing free physical therapy services to patients in the surrounding area. This sparked her passion for providing care to our community and to underserved patient populations that has continued throughout her physical therapy career. She is eager to continue to expand her knowledge to better serve patients in this community with their pelvic health needs.
She lives in Greenville with her husband. She enjoys spending her time with her dog and family, gardening, exercising and cooking.
