Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Referral for Physical Therapy?

No, you don’t need a referral for physical therapy. However, some insurance companies require that your primary physician or health care provider refer you for treatment to be covered. We recommend that you check with your insurance company prior to scheduling your first visit. Should you need a referral we recommend that you speak with your primary physician to request a referral or we can send one to them.

How long do sessions take?

The length of your session will depend on your specific condition and treatment. You will be informed of what to expect during your first visit, which will be your evaluation. On average, evaluation visits last for about an hour while your following visits may last anywhere between 30-60 minutes.

Can I come to my evaluation or treatments if I am on my period?

Yes, we encourage you to visit even if you are menstruating unless your therapist has advised you not to. We want to assure you that we value your comfort and should it be necessary there are alternative approaches to treatment available.

What will I be doing in therapy?

Depending on your condition, you will receive an individualized program that the therapist will update at each visit. Our treatments are designed to promote and enhance your health and functional improvement. Our therapists are specifically trained in many forms of treatment that include a combination of: biofeedback, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, electrical stimulation, patient education, and low-level laser therapy treatments. We treat every condition seriously and want what’s best for you as an individual.

Is it okay if I’m pregnant?

Yes, it is fine if you are pregnant. We only ask that you inform your therapist if you are pregnant. This way we may tailor your treatment so that we can do all we can to accommodate you. We want what’s best for you and your health, your child included.

How often will I have to come?

The frequency of your visits will depend on your condition and the program made by your therapist. If you have a specific schedule to work with, we recommend sharing this with your therapist as soon as possible so that we can best accommodate you when planning your treatment program.

What can I do for myself?

Physical Therapy is a participatory treatment. While regular office visits will certainly have a cumulative benefit for you, making sure you’re following your prescribed treatment plan (wearing recommended garments, performing at-home stretches and exercises) will dramatically improve your results as well. Your therapist will likely include activities for you to do at home between visits. This will vary based on your condition and the program made by your therapist.

Can a family member be present during the evaluation and treatment sessions?

A family member is welcome during evaluation and treatments. We understand the need for support in times of healing and encourage a family member (please limit it to one) to help ask questions and provide history information if possible. However we ask that you carefully reconsider bringing small children with you to treatments. We understand the responsibilities that come with being a parent and the attention children require but we unfortunately do not have available childcare.

Are the treatment rooms private?

Our therapists provide one-on-one treatment in private rooms that focus on each patient’s personal health issue. They will spend time discussing and listening to your condition, evaluate and assess your problem, then create an effective treatment plan to help relieve your pain and help you get the most of out of life.

For our breast cancer survivors, our private showroom and fitting area allow you to see the region’s best inventory of breast prostheses, swim forms, mastectomy bras and camisoles in comfortable setting with one of our Certified Mastectomy Fitters.

Will I see the same therapist each visit?

While we make every effort to keep you with the same therapist, you may see both therapists in order to best fit your schedule. Both physical therapists have experience treating a wide range of conditions. To learn more about each of our therapists, click here.
